KidsConnect At Home
(April 11)

"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page, two sheets of paper, tape, something to write with; a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our April Life App is "Peace: proving you care more about each other than winning an argument".

A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And by keeping our focus on kindness this month, we will begin to realize how important it is for us to be kind to ourselves and to others.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to
Colossians 3:15  or pull it up on a Bible app. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

Have you ever played ‘The Floor Is Lava,’ where you have to hop from chair to chair to avoid stepping on the lava floor? It’s a fun game, but can be a little stressful because you don’t want to fall into the burning hot lava, right? But if you can make it across . . . (sigh of relief) . . . you can find some peace!

All month long we’re talking about what it means to have peace—or really, how WE can make peace with others.

Peace is proving you care more about each other than winning an argument.

That means you can disagree with people without being mean to them.

You can be okay with not always winning or getting your way.

Remember, God made peace with US when He sent Jesus. We can follow His example by making peace with others, and treating them the way we want to be treated.

I’ve got a question for you. Have you ever been a part of a team? Like maybe you played soccer or basketball; or maybe you were part of a group project at school, or a team playing a video game.

If you’ve ever played on a team, then you know how important it is for everyone to work together and do their part.

In fact, that’s the way God made us to live—in every part of our lives. He made us to live in peace with each other. That’s what the apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Colossians.

Let the peace that Christ gives rule in your hearts. As parts of one body, you were appointed to live in peace. And be thankful.

Paul was saying that we should work together, just like all the parts of a body. Think about the different parts of your body. They all have a job to do, but they all work together. Your eyes see things . . . your ears hear things . . . and your hands hold things. They all work together so that you can live your life!

Let’s see a real-life example of how we can make peace with each other in today’s Bible video.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

It can be hard to stay at peace with the people around you. You have to work hard to make things right and keep playing your best together.

So how do you do that, exactly? How do you keep playing together as a team? How do you keep those disagreements and frustrations from driving you apart from your teammates—or from your friends and family?

Maybe we can find the answer if we look again at what Paul wrote in his letter.

"Let the peace that Christ gives, rule in your hearts." (NIrV)

You see, when we put our faith in Jesus, we have something that will bring us together with the people around us. We have the peace that Jesus gives us. His peace can rule in our hearts and change the way we treat others.

Remember, God made us to have peace with HIM because of what Jesus has done for US.

We don’t have to let our anger or hurt feelings control us. With God’s help, we can let go of those feelings. We can choose to make peace with the people around us.

Let’s look at the second part of what Paul wrote.

“As parts of one body, you were appointed to live in peace. And be thankful. (NIrV)

We’re all on the same team. We’re all part of one body. And God MADE us to live in peace as we share His love, kindness, and forgiveness with each other.

Remember, God made us to be one body—one team. With His help, we can really act like teammates, every single day.

We can make the first move to say we’re sorry.

We can think about what’s best for others instead of only what’s best for us.

We can treat others the way we want to be treated.

Think about it for a minute. Who do you need to make peace with? Is there a brother, sister, or other family member who you’ve been fighting with? Maybe a friend or someone on your sports team? Maybe someone at school or in your neighborhood?

Talk to God about it. Ask Him to help you make peace. See if you can make the first move to fix the problem. And if you don’t know what to do to make peace, remember, you can always ask someone like me, your teacher, or another adult you trust.

Now, let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
