KidsConnect At Home
(April 18)

"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page, a ball, a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our April Life App is "Peace: proving you care more about each other than winning an argument".

A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And by keeping our focus on kindness this month, we will begin to realize how important it is for us to be kind to ourselves and to others.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to
Genesis 26:1-6, 12-22, 26-31  or pull it up on a Bible app. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

Have you ever just chilled out in a swimming pool? Have you been able to relax on a raft or on an innertube and just let the warm sun and gentle water almost lull you to sleep?

I love chilling out on a raft in a pool. Some might even say it’s peaceful.

That’s what we’re talking about this month: peace!

But remember, peace isn’t just about resting and relaxing. Peace actually takes a bit of work. Because, peace is proving you care more about each other than about winning an argument.

It can be tough to always live at peace with other people.

But when we remember how God made peace with US by sending Jesus to be our Savior, that makes us want to make peace with others! When you’re a peacemaker, it’s a great way to treat others the way you want to be treated.

In today’s Bible story, we’ll learn how Isaac had to decide if he could make peace with some people who weren’t super-nice to him.

Let’s take a look.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

For years no one had cared about the wells until they were reopened, then everyone started fighting over them.

But instead of fighting, Isaac decided to give away the wells in order to make peace. Isaac walked away from what was rightfully his. And by walking away from the fight, those people changed their opinion about Isaac, and decided to trust him.

Here’s what we can remember from this story: You can show you care about others by walking away from a fight.

Sometimes creating peace with someone means walking away even if we’re not wrong. Often it takes a stronger person to have the self-control to walk away.

Of course, there are some cases when you DO need to stand up for what’s right. There are times when the wise thing to do is NOT to walk away but to stand up and make things right. If you’re in a tough situation, and you’re not sure what to do to make peace, talk to me or your teacher about it. And talk to God, too. Ask Him to help you make the wise choice.

That’s important because it will show people you care about them . . . and that God cares about them, too.

Our memory verse this month is a great reminder of how we should live. It’s Romans 14:19.

So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to build up one another.”

My challenge for you (and me!) this week is to try to choose peace when we want to argue or  fight. Let’s see how that changes our own attitudes as well as the attitudes of those we’re angry with.

Now, let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/view/download the PARENT GUIDE and do the activities together.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
