KidsConnect At Home
(April 12)

"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
5-10 plastic Easter eggs per person (if you don't already have these at home, work together as a family to draw the amount of eggs you need and cut them into cards, similar to how a matching game is set up), a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our April Life App is Humility. A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to John 18:12 through 20:23 or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

Today is Easter! I know a lot of you are excited about this day for a specific reason—mostly involving chocolate. And I’m with you. Chocolate is great. But there’s a huge reason why we celebrate Easter in the first place. On Easter, we take time to remember the most amazing event that has ever happened in the history of the world: when Jesus rose from the grave!

Throughout his life, Jesus turned things upside down by showing people a different way to live. Jesus spent His whole life putting others first. He lived a life of humility and Easter is the number-one example of that.

Humility is putting others first because we want to, not because we have to.

That itself might seem a little "upside down." Normally we want to be the "star". We want to do things our way and don't necessarily think about the needs of others. We might not even give equal value to someone else's ideas. But with God’s help, we can turn things upside down. We can live with humility. We can decide to put others first . . . like Jesus did.

Let's now watch the Easter story together. I'd like for you to pay attention to all of the things that Jesus did FOR others, even during this sad, painful, and lonely time.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

There were sad things that happened in this story, but it had the best ending ever -- never again would we ever have to worry about being separated from the love of God and the love of our families!

When Jesus rose out of that grave, He turned the world upside down!

His resurrection is God's promise of new life and renewed hope. It shows us that even in the tragedies of life, God is at work bringing renewal.

As Christians, we are called to share this renewal every day in our worship, our work, and our daily lives.

Some of those renewals might be to rebuild homes, donate food, show kindness, share a skill or a talent, forgive someone, or to tell someone "I love you."

As you think about what Easter means to you, maybe you can think of some examples of renewal that you have experienced in your own life.

Let's do some KidsConnect games to help us learn how showing humility can bring us closer to God.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/view/download the PARENT GUIDE and do the activities together.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
