MATERIALS NEEDED:
Paper and pencils (one for each person), a Bible or Bible App. WHAT YOU DO: Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE. Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities. WHAT YOU SAY: Our April Life App is Humility. A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to Philippians 2:3-8 or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located. WHAT YOU SAY: Humility is putting others first because we want to, not because we have to. Jesus spent His whole life putting others first. No one had ever seen the kind of humility that Jesus showed. The way He treated people was unforgettable. Jesus put people first -- showing them love and compassion -- even when no one else would. The way Jesus lived, and the things Jesus taught, changed how people thought about God and thought about how we should treat others. Let's see what we can learn from our Bible message today. Show this video: APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES WHAT YOU SAY: When the apostle Paul wrote to the people at the church in Philippi, he wanted them to remember all the ways Jesus had put others first. He knew that then they’d be able to put each other first as well. He wrote, "As you deal with one another, you should think and act as Jesus did.” There’s a question that people used to ask, years ago, that’s still a good way to think about this today. W-W-J-D? What would Jesus do? In the moment, when you feel frustrated or angry, it can be hard to stop and ask yourself what Jesus might do in that situation. But it’s important to press PAUSE, take a breath, and then choose to respond in a humble way. What would Jesus do? He would choose humility. He already DID choose humility—for you and me. Now—in our normal, everyday lives, with the people we see every day—we can follow Jesus’ example. We can put others first. We can choose to treat others the way we want to be treated. Let's do some KidsConnect games to help us learn how showing humility can bring us closer to God. WHAT YOU DO: Open/view/download the PARENT GUIDE and do the activities together. |
