APRIL 5 BIBLE STORY SUMMARY
We start off the month in Matthew 26:36-56. Jesus had been with His disciples at a special Passover meal where He demonstrated service and humility as He washed their feet. Afterwards, Jesus lead them the garden to watch and pray. Jesus gave us an important lesson in humility as He prays to His Father, “Not my will, but Your will.” Jesus was soon arrested and put on trial to humbly face the darkest moments of His life. That's why our "Bottom Line" from this story is: Put others first. As we look at some of Jesus’ last interactions with His closest followers, we pray that kids will understand the importance of putting others first. This isn’t always our initial response, but when we choose to show humility and put others first, we get to point others to Jesus.

FOR PARENTS:
"CELEBRATE EASTER" By Holly CrawshawEvery Easter my brother, sister, and I got brand new and coordinating Easter outfits and baskets. My mom wasn’t the kind of mom who baked cookies and did crafts with us. In today’s terms, she wouldn’t have been a “Pinterest Mom.” But she made a big deal about Easter. And because of that, I look forward to Easter as an adult. It doesn’t carry the pomp and splendor (read: pressure) of Christmas, but it’s a sweet holiday—one with traditions and activities I’ve passed down to own my kids. So how do we do that? How do we create Easter traditions for our children that will not only create fun and fond memories, but also reinforce the levity of the day itself? Here’s an idea for elementary-aged kids . . . HUMILITY JAR ACTIVITY:
Create a humility jar for this month and write, “put others first” on your jar as a reminder.
Depending on the size of your jar, pick any item you would want to add; such as, pom poms, cotton balls, legos, dried beans, or M&M’s.
Any time you see a family member put another family member or friend first, add one item to the jar.
See if you can fill the jar by the end of the month and then celebrate with a special treat.
