(July 12)

"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Items to create an "obstacle course" (stuffed animals, chairs, etc.), something to use as a blindfold, the Parent Guide page printed, a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our July Life App is "Faith". A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to Acts 17, or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

All summer long, we’re focusing on what it means to have faith. Faith is trusting in what you can’t see because of what you can see.

Sometimes, we need to pause and take a closer look at what God is doing all around us. There are so many things that show us how good He is—from the beauty of nature, to our friends and family, to the stories we read in the Bible. We may not be able to see God with our eyes. But when we focus on the things we know about God, we see more and more that He is good—and that we can trust Him no matter what.

Today, we'll see the continuing story of the apostle, Paul. Paul wasn’t always a Jesus-follower. But once he did decide to put his faith in Jesus, he wanted to share the good news with everyone.

In today's Bible message from the Book of Acts, we get to see what Paul does to share the truth of Jesus with the people in Athens.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

When Paul was in Athens, he used an altar to an unknown god to share the message of Jesus with the people. He spoke about things that the people were talking and thinking about already, to try to help them understand who Jesus is. This Bible story reminds us that we can help others know Jesus—just like Paul did.

When you treat people with kindness and forgiveness, you are modeling the behavior that Jesus taught us -- love God and love others.

One of the reasons God sent Jesus is to show us what HE is like. We can help others know Jesus by the way we live, and the way we treat others the way we want to be treated. When we treat people with love, respect, and kindness, they can see the love of Jesus through us.

When you look out for a kid at school who doesn’t seem to have a lot of friends, you show the love of Jesus. When you tell the truth, even when it could get you in trouble, or when you admit you’ve made a mistake, you show people what a difference Jesus has made in your life. When you do something that you don’t HAVE to do that helps someone else—like maybe helping around the house, or cheering up a friend who’s had a bad day—you show others how Jesus’ love has changed you.

Putting others first is a big deal, because it’s not normal. It stands out. That’s why it will help people understand who Jesus is and what He’s done for us. When you do those kinds of things, you can help others know Jesus.

Let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
