KidsConnect At Home
(March 14)

"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page, paper and something to write with, music, a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our March Life App is "Patience: waiting until later for what you want now".

A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And by keeping our focus on kindness this month, we will begin to realize how important it is for us to be kind to ourselves and to others.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to
Exodus 32:1-35  or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

This month we are learning about why it’s important to be patient. And we have a baking theme to go with it!

Do you know what patience means? (seek responses)  Patience is waiting until later for what you want now.

It can be tough to wait for the things you really want.

That’s definitely true when you’re baking.

You have to wait for bread to rise. Or you have to follow the recipe and add the ingredients in the right order. Sometimes you have to chop the ingredients into tiny pieces first. There can be lots of steps!

Do you agree that the hardest thing about baking can be when things are baking in the oven! You can SMELL the yummy bread or cookies or cake and you want your tasty, delicious treats right now. . . but you have to WAIT for them to be ready.

It can be hard to wait for things that we really want, but God can help us.

God loves us so much—and trust me, as we’ll see in our story today, God’s way is always the best way.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

Wow—that was a pretty wild story!  Can you believe the Israelites actually made a gold statue to be their god, just because they were tired of waiting? But even though they really messed up, God was still there for them. He had a good plan for them. Even though they sinned and disobeyed, God’s plan was so much bigger!

The truth is, all of us have a hard time waiting sometimes.

Have you ever been on a LONG car trip? You might have said more than a couple of times “Are we there yet?”

Have you ever had to wait for me to finish a phone call or a meeting before you could go and do something fun together?

Have you ever had to wait in line to ride a ride at an amusement park?

We get impatient.

In those times, we might be tempted to take a shortcut—to do something dishonest or treat someone badly just to get what we want. Or to lose our temper and say something mean.

But we don’t have to give in to that temptation.

That's why our bottom line this week is:  when you have to wait, remember what’s true.

When you do that, you can choose to live the way God wants you to live—even when you might not FEEL like it.

You can CHOOSE to be patient. You can remember to bring a book or a game or something to color to help you pass the time when you have to wait.

You can remember how talking to God has helped you be patient in the past and remember that He’s here with you now, too.

When you have to wait, remember what’s true.

Now, let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
