MATERIALS NEEDED:
Paper, markers, index cards (or paper cut in 3"x5" pieces), duct tape, marbles (or ping-pong balls or small bouncy balls, a Bible or Bible App. Optional: cornstarch.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our May Life App is Determination. A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to Acts 3:1 - Acts 4:21, or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:
This month, we're going to see what God wants us to learn about determination -- not giving up when things get tough.

Today, we’re picking up God’s Big Story just after Pentecost, which was the time when God sent His Holy Spirit to the believers to help them share the good news about Jesus and God's love for everyone.

Every day, more and more people were coming to know Jesus and joining the believers. As the church grew, the believers shared everything they had with each other. They shared their food, their possessions, and their homes.

It must have been so
exciting to be a part of the early church, but at the same time, it wasn’t easy. Things quickly became difficult for the believers.

In the book of Acts in the Bible, we can read about the difficulties the early church faced and how God brought them through it all.

Today, let's take a look at what happened to Peter and John.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

Here’s what we need to remember today: Keep going even when it gets tough.

Peter and John showed determination even when they were thrown into jail and put on trial. It was a pretty sticky situation. But Peter and John continued to follow Jesus and do what they knew was right. They were able to make the wise choice when things were difficult, because they knew it was worth it to finish what they started. And because they didn't give up, even more people came to know Jesus!

When life gets tough, we can have determination just like Peter and John did. We can rely on God and ask Him to give us the strength we need to keep going.

Let's do a KidsConnect activity to help us learn how not giving up when things seem impossible can bring us closer to God.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/view/download the PARENT GUIDE and do the activities together.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
