(May 30)

"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page, bucket or empty trash can, several coins of varying values, masking tape, two bowls full of coins, two empty bowls, paper and something to write with, a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our May Life App is "Commitment: making a plan and putting it into practice." When we commit to a relationship with God, we need to practice reading God's word, praying consistently, talking about God with others to learn more about God, and living out our faith every day -- not just on Sundays. It sounds like a lot, but actually all of these things can be practiced every day as we're doing our every day activities.

A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And by keeping our focus on kindness this month, we will begin to realize how important it is for us to be kind to ourselves and to others.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to
Mark 12:41-44 or pull it up on a Bible app. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

We need commitment if we want to succeed—whether we’re training for a race, studying for a test, or learning to play a musical instrument. First, we need a good plan, then we need to put that plan into practice!

And that’s true for our faith, too!

What does practicing our faith look like? Well, this month, we have learned about some skills that we can practice so that we can learn how we can grow closer to God. We talked about practicing loving God and loving others, and practicing hearing from God, praying to God, and talking about God.

Today, we will talk about practicing LIVING for God!

Let’s look at the book of Mark, chapter 12, to see what we can learn today about practicing living for God.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

Wow—the poor widow really wasn’t poor at all! She was rich in the ways that really mattered. She was rich in her love for God, and she was rich in the way she TRUSTED God. And Jesus said she gave more than anyone else that day!

It’s amazing how Jesus sees our hearts. Every day, we have a chance to live HIS way instead of trying to have everything go OUR way.

Every day, we can choose to show love—toward God and toward other people. Remember, when we look to Jesus, we will always see a perfect example of what it looks like to live God’s way. And just like everything else we’ve learned this month, living for God can take practice!

When we put what we believe into action, we can show God’s love to the people around us. We can help point people to Jesus when we follow Him and live the way He did—with courage, patience, generosity, and compassion.

So get excited! You have a great race ahead of you as you continue to discover how you can live for God. Does that sound like fun? Does it sound challenging?

Now, let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
