MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page printed, paper and pencils/pens for each person, a Bible or Bible App.
WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.
Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.
WHAT YOU SAY:
Our October Life App is "Integrity". Do you know what integrity means? (wait for responses) Integrity means being truthful in whatever you say and do.
A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And being truthful is super important because people depend on us to tell the truth. And we depend on others to tell the truth. Without integrity, it's hard to trust anyone, isn't it?
This month, let's keep our focus on being truthful in what we say and do.

WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to Philippians 4:8, or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.
WHAT YOU SAY:
This month we’re talking about what it means to live with integrity. What’s integrity again? (Integrity is choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.)
This month, we’ve looked at some GOOD examples about how to have integrity, and last week, we saw an example of what NOT to do! This week, we’ll take a look at a really important verse from the book of Philippians. Philippians, like many of the books in the New Testament, was written by a man named Paul.
Some time after Jesus had died then ascended to heaven, Paul went around telling people about Jesus. He started lots of churches across parts of Asia and Europe. He would go into a new town, tell people about Jesus, then start a church. Once there were enough believers, he’d move on to another city and tell the people THERE about Jesus.
The book of Philippians was a letter Paul wrote to the church in the city of Philippi. He actually wrote the letter while he was in prison. He hadn’t done anything wrong, but he had been arrested for telling people about Jesus.
This is what Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8.
Open the Bible or Bible app to Philippians 4:8 (NIrV) and read: “Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things."
You see, Paul wanted the Philippians to understand that what they THINK about matters . . . A LOT.
For example . . . when something bad happens, what do you think about? It could be something that annoys you . . . something that makes you mad . . . or something that just isn’t going your way. In times like that, what kinds of things run through your mind? (wait for responses)
We tend to focus on what’s wrong, don’t we? We think about all the things that AREN’T the way they should be. We get angry. We get frustrated. We want to get even with whoever hurt our feelings. We might even feel afraid because things around us seem so out of control.
There’s nothing wrong with feeling those emotions. Still, Paul was saying that we won’t get nearly as angry, frustrated, or scared if we choose to set our minds on those OTHER things instead.
Our video today shows a real-life example of what this might look like.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES
WHAT YOU SAY:
It’s amazing how things can change when we see them a little differently. And it really comes down to what we THINK about. That’s what Paul was saying in his letter.
Everything changes when we put our focus on what’s GOOD in our lives. And really, God is doing good things in us and around us, all the time! We just have to pause and remember what’s true.
God loves us. He gives us what we need. He’s always with us—through the good times and the tough times. If we focus on God, we’ll remember what matters most.
That’s something you can do, every day! You can choose to think, ON PURPOSE, about what’s true and what’s good. You can choose to pay attention to what God is doing in your life—in the good times and the bad times, too.
Now, let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
