KidsConnect At Home
|
MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page printed, two sheets of paper and something to write with, a Bible or Bible App.
WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.
Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.
WHAT YOU SAY:
Our September Life App is "Friendship".
A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And friendship is using your words and actions to show others you care.
There are so many things we can do to be a friend to others, including treating others with kindness and compassion. This month, let's keep our focus on ways our friendships can help us share God's love with others.

WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to 1 Kings 19:14-21 and 2 Kings 2:1-15, or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.
WHAT YOU SAY:
One of the best things about having a friend is when they say something nice to you—like ‘I like hanging out with you’ or ‘You’re really funny.’ We should use our words to encourage our friends!
Encouragement can feel really good, right? Encouragement from a friend can get you pumped up when you’re about to walk out on the field for a game . . . or on stage for a recital. Encouragement from a friend can also help you when you’re going through something difficult.
In the Old Testament, we can read about two friends who found out how important it is to encourage each other. Their names were Eli-JAH . . . and Eli-SHA. Their names are pretty similar, so you'll need to pay close attention to the video, ok?
Let's see what happens with the friendship between Elijah and Elisha.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES
WHAT YOU SAY:
Elijah and Elisha were great friends. They stuck together. They did what they knew God had planned for them to do. And they encouraged each other along the way!
When we encourage our friends, we can share God’s love in a big way. You never know who might need a kind word from you.
Take the time to just say it. ‘Hey—I know you can do this.’ or ‘Remember, I’ll always be your friend.’
The great news is, we don’t have to do it alone. Jesus promised that God would send us a Helper: His Holy Spirit. When we put our faith in Jesus, we have His Spirit living inside us. The Spirit encourages US . . . and gives us the power to encourage other people, too.
There are so many ways that you can encourage someone—so use your imagination, and be creative! Maybe your friend is nervous about a tryout for a sport, or maybe she has a big test coming up. You can encourage her by telling her you believe in her. You can help her practice, too! If you notice that one of your friends is upset, you don’t have to know the perfect words to say. Sit with him. Hang out with him. Just let him know that you’re there for him—no matter what.
When we encourage our friends, it’s a great way that we can treat others the way we want to be treated.
Let’s be encouragers. Let’s be there for each other.
Now, let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Take a photo of your family doing one of the activities and post it to our private Facebook group @ Foothills Family Ministries or ask Ms. Lisa to share it lisastewart@foothillsumc.org. Seeing pictures of other KidsConnect families doing the activities will hopefully help us feel connected during this time of physical isolation!
