"DIG DEEPER" ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Parent Guide page printed, timer, six shirts, random toys, kitchen chairs, broom, dustpan, paper, pencil, a Bible or Bible App.

WHAT YOU DO:
Open/download/print the PARENT GUIDE.

Gather your family together where you can watch the Bible video and you have room to do the activities.

WHAT YOU SAY:
Our September Life App is "Friendship".

A life app is something that God wants to do IN you to change the world AROUND you. And friendship is using your words and actions to show others you care.

There are so many things we can do to be a friend to others, including treating others with kindness and compassion. This month, let's keep our focus on ways our friendships can help us share God's love with others.
WHAT YOU DO:
If you have a Bible, open it to Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
, or pull it up on a Bible App. Help kids find where the passage is located.

WHAT YOU SAY:

Raise your hand if you think friendship is important. (Pause for response.) Well, GOD certainly thinks friendship is important. He made us to have good relationships with each other. It’s really important for us to learn how to BE a good friend and for us to have friends around us who encourage us and point us in the right direction.

There are some verses in the Bible that show us how important friendship is. We can find them in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 4, verses 9-12
.

A lot of people believe that Ecclesiastes was written by Solomon, who was a king over Israel. Solomon was actually King David’s son. When Solomon became king, God offered him the choice of whatever he wanted. Solomon could have asked for ANYTHING. But he didn’t ask for a million chicken nuggets . . . or endless video games . . . or to be ten feet tall. He asked for WISDOM. He knew that he would need wisdom from God in order to be a good king for God’s people. God gave Solomon the wisdom he asked for, and Solomon is known as one of the wisest men who ever lived.

Let's see how the verse from Ecclesiastes "two people are better than one" might look in a situation at school.

APPLYING THE MESSAGE TO OUR LIVES

WHAT YOU SAY:

So, take what Solomon said in the Bible verse and think about your closest friends.

Do you help each other out? Do you stick up for each other? (seek responses)

We have had to be away from our friends this year because of the coronavirus. That is really hard, isn't it? But you still found ways to spend time with your friends—like maybe on the phone or video chat. One of the best ways to find a good friend is to BE a good friend. If your friend is having a bad day, take the time to ask what’s wrong—and really listen. If you know your friend feels overwhelmed at school, ask what you can do to help. Through your words and actions, you are showing God's love to your friends.

The good news is, we have the PERFECT example of a true friend. No one has ever been a better friend than Jesus! When Jesus died for our sins, He showed us just how much He loves us. And it doesn’t stop there, because Jesus is ALWAYS with us.

It’s important for us to show love to our friends, through our words and our actions. We can be there to help each other when things get tough.

Let's do a KidsConnect activity to connect with today's Bible message.
